  What ski pass to purchase

Information on ski pass rates is available at:

Generally speaking, beginners will not require a multi day pass for the first one or two days, after which time it is usually best to purchase a multi day pass for the rest of the holiday. The first few days are usually spent on the valley floor using the ski lifts on the nursery slopes. It is possible to purchase individual half day / day or pay as you go lift tickets depending upon the area. These are less costly than the multi day passes.

Most beginners will be ready to use the higher lifts on the third day. Even if the beginner will not be able to ski from all the lifts, the "Chamonix Le Pass" or "Mont Blanc Unlimited" are useful for taking sightseeing (non skiing) trips up Aiguille du Midi, Montenvers, or to meet up with friends at other ski areas for lunch etc.

Any skier who does not aim to ski for more than half a day each day or to take sightseeing lifts will probably save money by purchasing half day lift tickets rather than a skipass.

Day / half day tickets do entail waiting in line at the ski areas to purchase the tickets and it is more convenient to do this just once to purchase a multi day ski pass. Ski passes can be purchased at all the main lift areas or via the internet but not at the nursery slopes where individual tickets may be purchased.

The "Chamonix Le Pass" does not cover the ski area of Les Houches. The "Mont Blanc Unlimited" covers everything that the Chamonix Pass offers plus Les Houches (+ unlimited access to the top lift at Les Grands Montets, the Aiguille du Midi and the possibility to spend one day in Courmayeur (Italy).

Les Houches is a particularly useful ski area if the weather is poor as it offers ski trails descending through the forest thus offering a far better visibility than most of the ski areas in Chamonix. It is possible to purchase a "Chamonix Le Pass" & pay a supplement if you decide to upgrade to a "Mont Blanc Unlimited" - the supplement is the difference between the cost of the two passes so generally it is best to purchase "Chamonix Le Pass" and upgrade if the weather dictates going skiing at Les Houches.

Experienced skiers wishing to ski from Aiguille du Midi & all of the Grands Montets area would probably be best advised to purchase the "Mont Blanc Unlimited" pass.

Families are able to benefit from special packages for "Chamonix Le Pass" or "Mont Blanc Unlimited" : 2 full paying adults; 1 child at 50% , 2nd child & any subsequent children free. You must be able to provide proof that all are the same family and children are 4 - 15 years inclusive.

Seniors (60 - 69 years ) & Veterans (70 yrs +) also receive special rates.

Skipass Mont Blanc : Valid in the whole of Chamonix, Les Contamines, Megeve, St Gervais, Courmayeur (Italy) & more. Available for 5,6,7 days only.
